You have all these rules and you think they'll save you

"You have all these rules and you think they'll save you."-The Joker

The other day I heard this quote and it really made me think.  About religion. We think we are better than others because of mere acts. That's dumb (as my Nana would say).  God wants us. Not the things we do or don't do, but us. Not something you've done. Not a little prayer you prayed at VBS or church camp, He wants us. He wants you to know him, and he wants to know you.

My favorite quote by Relient K says: "The beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair."  The words in this quote are so few, but so profound. I mean if you really think about it, grace isn't fair. we often think we can make it that way by what we do. But we can't. God can, but we are not God.  I think we forget this far to often.

Nothing you do is going to save you.  If you know Jesus he will, but the things you do simply can not.  If you truly KNOW God and believe in him you are saved, but not by your acts.  We are not better than others because of things we done.  God is better than others, but we are not God.

We really do have all these rules that we think will make us right with the perfect creator of everything.  But they don't.  Grace really isn't fair, and although we can't fully understand that, we can know Jesus and this thing called grace.  God can't accept religion, though he can accept us.

21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.-Romans 3:21-24
